Till the year 2000 Jharkhand was the southern region of Bihar. Jharkhand is a state situated in eastern par of India. It shares borders with states of Bihar to the north, Uttar Pradesh to the northwest, Chhattisgarh to the west, Odisha to the south and West Bengal to the east. It has an area of 79,710 km. It is the 15th largest by area and the 14th largest state by population . Hindi is the official language of the state. The Administrative, Judicial and Legislative Capital of Jharkhand is Ranchi.
